While I was out on holiday Microsoft released its 2008 annual report.
They don’t have it broken out by quarter but since they had previously reported a net income of $588m for the last 3 quarters and the annual net was $426m it looks like their Q4 result was a $162m loss. This breaks the 3 quarter profitability streak they had. On the bright side this is the first year the EDD had a net profit ever.
Interestingly they also show the net losses for 2007 and 2006 to be greater that they had previously reported in their 2007 and 2006 annual reports so I’ve updated the table appropriately.
This brings their net loss so far down to a $6.959 billion.
| Year | Net income | Cumlative |
|---|---|---|
| 2008 | $426 | ($6962) |
| 2007 | ($1969) | ($7388) |
| 2006 | ($1339) | ($5419) |
| 2005 | ($539) | ($4080) |
| 2004 | ($1215) | ($3514) |
| 2003 | ($1191) | ($2326) |
| 2002 | ($1135) | ($1135) |
(in millions of dollars)
